TITLE: 10 Million PRIME Meters Deployed. 1st Phase of the commercial roll out in Latvia. New PRIME Pilots in Lebanon.
2nd November, 2015 European Utility Week, Vienna. The PRIME Alliance announces, that utilities and solution providers utilising the PRIME standard have successfully installed 10 Million meters worldwide. PRIME is a proven technology, that works in scale for future-proof smart grid deployments.
This successful continued mass deployment PRIME meters, supporting data concentrators and corresponding MDM, has seen expansion outside of central Europe into Latin America, Australia and more recently Middle-East and Northern Europe.
Latvia – JSC Sadales Tīkls
JSC Sadales tīkls (ST) is the leading power distribution operator in Latvia, providing operation and development of distribution networks. ST provides electricity to over one million customers covering 99% of country’s territory, as well as performs network monitoring and electricity metering.
Starting from year 2014 ST has begun massive rollout of smart metering which includes installation of PRIME Smart meters, DCUs and head-end systems, covering urban, semi-urban and rural areas. Up to middle of October ST has installed more than 105 000 PRIME ADD Smart meters and 1200 DCUs of which 95% of the Smart Meters are read over PLC PRIME technology and 5% over 4G network.
Lebanon
NEU and BUS two of the Distribution Operators for the nationwide utility in Lebanon, EDL’s networks evaluated several smart metering standards, before selecting PRIME for both its maturity and for the strong industrial support. Due to limited availability of generated power, real-time identification of the amount and location of energy losses is a key driver for these pilot initiatives, which will develop into commercial roll outs.
NEU Pilot: Covering ten zones including urban, semi-urban and rural regions, this pilot involves 1,600 meters and 10 DCU’s proving interoperability with the use of devices from both ZIV and Sagemcom.

BUS Pilot: Taking in six zones across urban, semi-urban, rural and industrial, more 1,600 residential meters pilot including six substation meters and six DCU’s using technology from El Sewedy and Ormazabal Current have been successfully tested under noisy and challenging environments.
