3rd Annual PRIME Utility to Utility User Group Conference

3rd Annual PRIME Utility to Utility User Group Conference

Third PRIME Alliance Utility to Utility User Group Conference Held in Gdansk on September 12th and 13th

Brussels, September 25th, 2017

The third annual edition of the Utility-to-Utility User Group Conference was hosted by ENERGA- OPERATOR SA (EOP) for the first time. The main activity was the exchange of experience in implementation regarding Smart Metering and Smart Grid among DSOs, which was attended by representatives of distribution system operators.

As PRIME Alliance operates as an international non-profit association promoting the open standard of communication in intelligent power grids, the two-day conference welcomed representatives of DSOs from around the world: VIESGO, Iberdrola, EDP, HC ENERGIA, Gas Natural Fenosa, EDP Distribuicao, Lebanon BUS (Butec Utility Services); NEUC (National Electrical Utility Company); Brazil (Neoenergia), Czech Republic (PREdistribuce, a.s.) and Croatia (HEP d.d.).

The meeting was opened on September 12th by Jarosław Leszczełowski, EOP IT Director, moderated by Angel Hernandez Chairman of the PRIME Promotion Group and Andrzej Walentynowicz from the EOP Measurement Management Bureau. The high level of content, presentations and discussions on real problems created an interactive workshop-like atmosphere. All presenters were asked a wide range of questions on solving specific subjects.

The technical presentation of PRIME Alliance was done by Inigo Berganza, Chairman of the Technical Working Group. He presented the current status of the development of PRIME specifications, technology choices and future directions. It was also possible for him to submit ideas directly influencing the upcoming features and specifications of PRIME.

Wieslaw Frydrych, EOP Architect and Systems Attorney closed the two-day conference on September 13th, by particularly thanking the high level presenters and the proactive participants for their open discussion. Though network layouts, legal regulations, and general goals differ from country to country, most problems faced have a common aspect across distance. This shows how important and value- adding the exchange of experiences are today and tomorrow.

About PRIME Alliance

PRIME (PoweRline Intelligent Metering Evolution) Alliance AISBL was created in 2009 to define an open and future-proofed communications PLC-based infrastructure to support large scale smart metering and other smart grid deployments. The PRIME Alliance has attracted key industry players, including Sponsoring Members El Sewedy Electometer and ZIV. The goal of the Alliance is to provide a framework in which the smart metering and smart grid industry have access to open detailed technical specifications in order to develop fully interoperable solutions, allowing multiple vendors to be operational within the same distribution network in one common system architecture. Detailed technical specs include Physical PHY layer and Medium Access Control MAC layer specifications.

The PRIME Alliance provides a forum for the definition, maintenance and support of an open and comprehensive standard for narrowband power line for Smart Grid products and services. The mission of the Alliance is to accelerate the demand for products and services based on this worldwide standard and promote the broad adoption and use of the specification while certifying multi-vendor interoperability and compatibility with the global standard. The Alliance is open to all potential partners who agree to actively support and promote an open and public specification for the benefit of the end-user and all industry stakeholders.
