Iberdrola uploads the latest version of STG-DC protocol
PRIME Alliance is delighted to share exciting developments from Iberdrola, a PRIME Principal Member, regarding the evolution of the STG-DC protocol. Continuing its commitment to innovation, Iberdrola has officially released the latest version, STG-DC 4.0, marking a significant milestone in the protocol’s development.
STG-DC was originally endorsed by PRIME Alliance in 2015 when the WAN Task Force (TF) worked on the release of a protocol (then version 3.3) that specified communications between Head End systems (sometimes called MDC – Meter Data Collector) and PRIME-enabled Data Concentrators (DC’s) in the field. WAN TF activities were frozen afterwards, but Iberdrola kept maintaining and updating the protocol since then.
STG – DC INTERFACE SPECIFICATION, October 2024
This specification aims to establish the communication between an MDC/Head End System and the concentrators (DC’s), defining a protocol for managing, configuring, and retrieving information from DC’s and meters. This protocol complies with the latest version of Iberdrola’s PRIME DC’s, ensuring that the MDC can manage all related elements.
Key enhancements in the protocol include:
- Cybersecurity management with keys, passwords, and certificates
- Support for plug & play DCs
- Advanced meter supervision
- Integration of transformer monitoring cards.
This latest version 4.0 ensures robust, secure, and streamlined management of PRIME DCs, providing immense value exclusively to PRIME members.
Access to innovative technolgy is yet another valuable benefit of membership, alongside the ability to certify products with PRIME, gaining access to an extensive network of industry leaders, opportunities to expand their networking, and stay informed about the latest advancements in smart grid technologies.
